Plovdiv increasingly hard is establishing itself as the industrial capital of Bulgaria. Only in economic zone "Trakia" annually are invested between 70 and 130 million EUR from Bulgarian and foreign companies, and in the new 2017-a year will be needed over 5,000 new employees for businesses in the region. 2016 was a truly landmark in terms of investment due to the analysts, developers and municipal officials. This is the reason why Plovdiv boasts one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country - only 3.8%. The largest number of equity investments are in communications and the IT industry. In 2016 the presence of this type of activity in Plovdiv grew by 20% and the number of employees now exceeds 5,000. Over 1,000 new engineers will be needed for businesses in the area of economic zone "Trakia". In 2017 there will be announced nearly 4,000 positions for middle and low-skilled staff. Last year in the industrial zone opened several new businesses. The negotiations with Belgian company in the field of fashion, which will invest in the region of Rakovski and companies who want to work in Maritsa Municipality, are at their final stage. According to the economists, Plovdiv emerged as a solid logistics core. The strategic geographical location and the available infrastructure give confidence to investors to choose exactly this region. The estimates are that over the next 10 years, only in economic zone “Trakia” will be invested over 1 billion euro and revealed more than 30,000 work places. The business, however, complains of a serious lack of well-trained staff and claim the vocational education in the country to be supported and encouraged. Now the huge deficits are in textiles, mechatronics and automotive sector.
